Ch. 2
The sand stung as it hit her eyes, her body ached from being beaten and all she wanted to do was disappear. If she disappeared, no one would care. In fact, they would all be happy she was gone. She would be doing them a favor. That's what they all wanted after all, anyway.
A few more kicks to the stomach and it was finally over. This always happened on the days her friends weren't with her. Lily picked herself up off the ground and dusted herself off. She hurried down the street to her house so she could grab her box of shiny, silver razors. She had to find somewhere else to release her pain because her parents had caught her one time.
As she walked along, she came across a patch of trees that looked like it might be a good spot for her to be alone. As she walked deeper and deeper into the woods, it got darker and darker. She heard rustling in the trees and something fell from the tree with a hard thump.
Lily screamed and dropped her box on the ground. The box lid fell off and the razors spilled out. She knelt down to grab the razors and put them back in the box. When she looked up, there was another face looking back at her. She gasped and jumped back a little.
“I'm sorry...” The other person said. “I didn't mean to scare you.”
“It's okay.” Lily stepped closer. “Why were you in that tree? Are you okay?”
The boy stepped closer to her so that she could see him better. He shrugged. “I got bored and figured I would climb a tree. Don't worry about me, I'm okay. The question is, are you?” He pointed to the box in her hands.
Lily felt her cheeks flush with heat. She couldn't find the words to say something.
“I'm Hayden.” The boy continued. “I just moved here...”
“I'm Lily.” She said.
Even her name was pretty. Was there anything about this girl that wasn't perfect?
“Are you sure you're okay?” She asked. “You just fell out of a tree...”
“Yeah, yeah, I'm fine.” Hayden said. He really didn't want her to worry about him. It seemed she had enough to worry about.
“Do you want to be friends? You seem interesting.” She said.
“Friends?” Hayden asked.
She nodded.
“I'm surprised you actually want to be friends with me.” Hayden admitted.
“Well, I'm just different, I guess.” She said. “Come on, let's go back to my house, okay?”
“Really?” Hayden smiled.
“Yeah, let's go.” She took him by the hand and he felt his heart flutter.
No girl had ever affected him this way and for once, someone had actually accepted him for who he is.
